Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh Reviews Flood Situation in Bahraich and Banda

Lucknow: In compliance with the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Dinesh Pratap Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Foreign Trade and Agricultural Exports, reviewed the flood and waterlogging situation in Bahraich and Banda, the two districts under his charge. On Sunday, from the conference room of his government residence in Lucknow, he held an extensive discussion via video conferencing with the district magistrates of both districts and the sub-divisional magistrates of all their tehsils.

During the review, it was informed that Banda district has seen no instance of rivers flooding after August in the past 10 years, whereas Bahraich district remains at risk of floods affecting normal life until September-October. The minister reviewed the preparedness at every level to deal with this situation.

In Bahraich district, the Saryu river is flowing 3 metres below the danger mark, the Ghaghra river 18 centimetres below, and the Sharda river 71 centimetres below the danger mark. Similarly, in Banda, the Ken river is flowing 9 metres below the danger mark and the Yamuna river 10 metres below. Officials of both districts informed that normal life has not been significantly affected by floods so far. Discussions with public representatives also indicated that there is currently no likelihood of life being disrupted.

Minister Singh directed officials to remain fully alert and ensure no lapses occur. He instructed that normal movement of traffic on roads damaged by floods or waterlogging must continue uninterrupted, and that all preparations to deal with heavy rainfall must be kept in place.
